Hempstock Pharms Happy Horse Hemp Pellets are small-batch crafted from locally grown CBD-dominant hemp.  Pelletizing hand bucked and expertly cured cannabinoid rich hemp is believed to be more effective in helping to reduce pain, inflammation, and anxiety while promoting a calm and focused demeanor in your horse.

These pellets are great for your companion and working horses, however your hardworking competition horses will have to miss out until the USA Equine Federation, and other international regulators such as the Olympic governing FEI, change their stance on cannabinoids as supplements. Due to restrictions on the research of cannabinoids, published peer reviewed research is limited.  As such, many of the reported benefits are preliminary and largely supported by anecdote.

Nonetheless, tens of thousands of companion animal owners swear by the effectiveness of CBD|CBDA. Summarized below are the overarching benefits CBD|CBDA users have observed.  Also included below are references and links to some important preliminary research in this field.  THESE ARE NOT HEALTH CLAIMS - we are simply sharing what countless users have anecdotally reported.

Please see Hempstock's Happy Horse Pellets COA here.  Call or stop by and we can explain how to interprete these certificates of analysis to ensure quality, potency, and purity of all your hemp-derived cannabinoids.

1. Reduce Inflammation

Both CBD and CBDA are known for their powerful anti-inflammatory effects. CBDA, in particular, interacts with the endocannabinoid system in horses, potentially reducing inflammation and its secondary effects, such as pain, stiffness, and hesitation. CBD acts as an adenosine reuptake inhibitor, increasing adenosine levels in the brain, which helps reduce inflammation via A2A receptor activation. This is especially beneficial for horses with conditions like arthritis or joint pain.

2. Aid Psychological Recovery

Horses, known for their sensitivity and anxiety, can benefit from CBD's calming effects. After an injury, pain often exacerbates anxiety, but CBD and CBDA can help alleviate discomfort, reducing the associated stress. As reported by many human CBD users, feelings of reduced anxiety and increased happiness suggest that similar effects may benefit horses as well, supporting both their physical and psychological recovery.

3. Support Exercise Recovery

Horses undergoing rigorous training might find relief with CBD, as it helps modulate stress hormones like cortisol. Excessive cortisol can lead to issues like muscle breakdown and weight gain, but CBD has been shown to regulate these hormonal spikes, promoting quicker post-exercise muscle recovery.

4. Boost Energy and Provide Protein

The full-spectrum CBD pellets are enriched with hemp seed, providing not just cannabinoids but also protein. These proteins contribute to muscle development and improved stamina for high-intensity exercise, along with providing an excellent source of dietary energy. This is particularly beneficial for performance horses.

5. Strengthen Bones

Preliminary studies suggest that CBD may help strengthen skeletal structures in horses and even accelerate fracture healing. This would be a significant advantage for equines prone to injuries.

6. Minimal Side Effects

Unlike NSAIDs, which can cause digestive issues or liver damage, CBD|CBDA have been found to have minimal side effects. Studies suggest that even at high doses, the most significant effect observed has been mildly elevated liver enzymes, which occurred only at doses 10-15 times higher than recommended.  This means that when given at appropriate doses, CBD can offer relief without the gastrointestinal side effects common with traditional medications.

CBD and CBDA Dosing for Horses

When dosing horses with CBD or CBDA, their slower metabolism compared to smaller animals plays a critical role. For instance, research shows that a mere 25 mg of full-spectrum CBD oil can help ease anxiety in horses, which translates to only 0.05 mg/kg. This makes CBD an affordable option for managing equine health.

Recommended Daily Dosages

 Minis (400-660 lbs) 25-50 mg

 Full-sized (660-1110 lbs) 50-150 mg

Large breeds (1100-1800 lbs) 100-250 mg

It’s always essential to start with a low dose and gradually increase as needed while monitoring your horse’s response. Working with a veterinarian is crucial to create a tailored plan for your horse's specific needs.

In summary, Hempstock’s Happy Horse Hemp Pellets provide an easy-to-administer, healthful option for reducing inflammation, anxiety, and pain, while also supporting bone strength and exercise recovery in horses. The minimal side effects compared to NSAIDs make it an attractive alternative for managing equine health effectively.
